Job Title: PV Technologist

Background:
BrightSpot Automation is a leading provider of specialized manufacturing and measurement tools for the solar energy industry and photovoltaic researchers. We are dedicated to helping our customers improve module durability and performance by providing testing solutions for all PV technologies. Our expertise lies in solar cell and solar panel defect imaging, and we offer electroluminescence, photoluminescence, and UV fluorescence camera systems for imaging cracked cells and other defects in still images or video. We sell our solutions through the entire PV value chain, including R&D, product development, manufacturing, distribution, field testing, and recycling. Our systems include modified consumer cameras, accessories (e.g., drone integration), and custom software to acquire images, enhance them, and automate the detection and quantification of the defects.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a PV Technologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience characterizing solar cells (including those of thin film and tandem designs) by photoluminescence and electroluminescence, designing and building metrology hardware, and have a thorough understanding of solar cell device physics. You will work independently to achieve goals and set schedule in collaboration with the existing team.
Responsibilities:
• Reach out to potential customers to collect input and stimulate sales
• Test samples from potential customers
• Specify software changes to improve analysis capabilities
• Specify and implement hardware changes to improvement measurement quality and capabilities
• Provide production and installation support
• Write funding proposals and manage award contracts
• Improve company website with respect to metrology capabilities
Qualifications:
• Ability to work on a small team and deliver to schedule
• Ph.D. degree in engineering or a related field or the equivalent in relevant work experience
• Experience with EL and PL testing of thin-film solar cells
• Experience with EL and PL metrology design, build, and implementation
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
