UVF imaging is the only module testing technique which directly examines a panel’s polymer components and can reveal cell cracks, hot spots and encapsulant yellowing, gridline corrosion/delamination, Bill of Material differences in backsheets, encapsulants and metallization pastes, and sealing problems at panel edges and J-boxes

The UV Fluorescence Kit is easy and intuitive to use and lets our trainees take a quick look at modules for damage. It is very useful for both troubleshooting panels and as a diagnostic tool in the PV O&M classes we teach.

UVF can reveal a wide range of panel problems and non-uniformities

The UV Fluorescence technique works with panels that have polymer backsheets. Fluorophores are contained in panel encapsulants and backsheets – leading to fluorescence in the visible spectrum when exposed to UV light.
