BrightSpot customizes flexible, lab/factory imaging solutions for inspecting solar cells and wafers using electroluminescence (EL), non-contact photoluminescence (PL), and non-contact coverglass crack/void detection. Image partially or fully processed cells or panels, including silicon, thin film, and III-V multi-junction.

Configure your system

With your choice of safe LED PL light sources (blue, green, red, or NIR), camera filters for specific bandgaps or subcells, custom probing stages, and integration with robotic assembly or large area wing/array scanning. Paired with IMPEL software, BrightSpot systems enable fast, high-resolution image capture and enhancement—ideal for defect detection, quality control, and subcell analysis.

Post Installation Inspection

Cameras and PL Light Sources can be mounted in a wide range of configurations, including within gantry robot systems, for any customized requirements.

Electroluminescence Imaging

Electroluminescence reveals hidden defects in solar cells and panels, from cracks to shunts to cold weld joints by imaging emitted light under electrical bias.

Photoluminescence Imaging

Reveal cracks, shunts, and other defects in a non-contact manner. Frequently used for quality control to inspect incoming cells/CICs prior to panel assembly.

Coverglass Defect Detection

See coverglass defects using the same camera as for EL and PL. Coverglass defects include chips, cracks, and voids (bubbles) between the coverglass and cell.

From a single interface, users can adjust exposure settings, trigger PL or EL sequences, and save all control and post-processing parameters in a convenient “Recipe” format.
